Having moved to Las Vegas at the age of three, Judge Wiese is almost a “native.” He grew up in Las Vegas, and graduated from Rancho High School in 1984. He attended and graduated from BYU in 1991, with a major in Political Science, and a minor in English. He then attended and graduated from McGeorge Law School in Sacramanto, CA, in 1994. After graduating from law school, he returned to Las Vegas, and worked as an associate attorney, with the firm of Vannah & Costello, and later as a partner when the firm became known as Vannah, Costello, Canepa, Wiese & Reidy. In 1998, he joined forces with his best friend, Donald Williams, and they formed the firm of Williams & Wiese.
Wiese focused primarily on personal injury, medical malpractice, workers compensation, wrongful death, and insurance bad faith. The firm also had a contract with the Public Defender’s Office for many years, whereby they represented individuals in civil commitment hearings and parole revocation hearings. Before taking the bench in 2011, Judge Wiese practiced as an attorney for 16 years, with approximately 6-8 years primarily focused on defense work, and approximately 8-10 years representing primarily plaintiffs.
A family man at heart, Judge Wiese has always spent as much time as possible with his children. He has a beautiful wife of 36 years, and four wonderful children, ages 30, 25, 23, and 20. He coached all of his children in soccer, and all of his boys in basketball. He has been consistently involved as a Boy Scout leader for the past 34 years, and currently serves on the Las Vegas Area Council Board. A devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Judge Wiese is active in his church, and always seems to have one job or another working with the youth.
